AWWA C200 water pipes

Water pipes AWWA C200 is in the standard that covers the pipe with longitudinal or spiral seam, above 6 inches. (150 mm) of nominal diameter, used for conduction and distribution of water, or for use in other installations of the water system.

INSPECTION

All work performed and material supplied under this standard can be inspected by the buyer, but such an inspection does not relieve the manufacturer of the responsibility to supply material and perform work in accordance with this standard.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

The manufacturer of AWWA C200 water pipes maintains a quality assurance program, thus ensuring compliance with minimum standards. It must include a certified welding inspector (AWS QC1) to verify that welders and pipe welding procedures are qualified and procedures are being followed with limited testing and quality assurance functions are being performed

Defects

The finished AWWA C200 water pipe must be free of unacceptable defects. Defects in the seamless pipe or in the original metal of the welded pipe will be considered unacceptable when the depth of the defect is greater than 12.5% of the nominal wall thickness.

Defect repair will not be allowed if the defect depth exceeds 1/3 of the nominal thickness of the pipe wall and if the length of the defect part where the depth exceeds 12.5% is greater than 25% Outside diameter the tube. Each length of repaired pipe must be hydrostatically tested according to normal requirements.

MARKING

A serial number or other identification of AWWA C200 Water Pipes must be painted in a visible place on each section of piping and each special section.

MATERIALS

ASTM

If the Tube is manufactured to meet the requirements of one or more of the ASTM specifications, the pipe classes must be:

  • Type E or S for ASTM A-53
  • A-36, A-283, A-570, A-572 for ASTM A-134
  • All grades for ASTM A-135
  • All grades for ASTM A-139

MANUFACTURED TUBE

When the tube must be manufactured to meet standard requirements; Plates or coils must be selected according to the following physical properties and specifications.

SHEETS

  • ASTM A-36 / 36M, ASTM A-283 / A-283M - Grade C and D
  • ASTM A-572 / A-572M - Grade 42.50 and 60

COILS AND LEAVES

  • ASTM A-570 / 570M - Grade 30 to 50.

For plates, the maximum allowable thickness variation must be 0.010 inches below the ordered thickness.

For sheets, the maximum allowable thickness variations must be in accordance with ASTM A-568 specifications.

PIPE MANUFACTURING

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

The tube produced in a tube mill must be subjected to the AWWA C-200 quality control procedures. This piping must be manufactured to meet the standard requirements of ASTM A-53, A-134, A-135 and A-139.

PIPE MANUFACTURING

The weld must be reasonably uniform in width and height for the entire length of the pipe.
By agreement between the buyer and the manufacturer, welding can be done by automatic or manual means.
All spiral, longitudinal and circumferential seams used in the manufacture of the pipe must be welded butt joints with full penetration.
The maximum tolerance for radial displacement on the plates is:

  • For 3/8 inch or less thickness = 0.1875 times the thickness or 1/16 inch (whichever is greater).
  • For 3/8 inch thickness and above = 0.1875 times the thickness or 1/8 inch (or whichever is less).

SOLDING

The procedures, welding operators, as well as all operators, must be qualified in accordance with Sec. IX, part A, of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Reservoir Code, or in accordance with AWS B2 . 1, or under any other code mutually agreed between the buyer and the manufacturer.

PRODUCTION WELDING TESTS

The production welding tests for AWWA C200 water pipes consist of: two bending tests (interior and exterior curves), two tests of reduced section tension and a macroetc test.

The frequency of production welding tests: There must be at least one set of welding test samples of each size, grade and wall thickness of the work performed by each production machine and each operator at least every 3000 tube feet.

HYDROSTATIC TESTING

TEST PRESSURE

Each tube length must be tested by the manufacturer to a hydrostatic pressure not lower than that determined by the following formula: P = 2St / D

Where:

P = minimum hydrostatic test pressure (psi).

Note: By agreement between the buyer and the manufacturer, when the diameter and thickness of the pipe wall are such that the capacity of the test equipment is exceeded by these requirements, the test pressures can be reduced or other non-destructive test methods can be used.

S = tension on the tube wall during the hydrostatic test, which must be 0.75 times the minimum specified elastic limit of the steel used or as specified by the buyer.

T = wall thickness (inches)

D = outside diameter (inches).

The test pressure must be maintained long enough to observe the welding seams. There will be no leaks.

PERMISSIBLE VARIATIONS IN WEIGHT AND DIMENSIONS

THICKNESS AND WEIGHT

Unless specified by the buyer, wall thickness and weight tolerances for welded tubes must be governed by the requirements of the specifications to which the sheets or sheets are ordered.

CIRCUMFERENCE

The tube must be substantially round. The outer circumference of the tube should not vary by more than +/- 1%, but it should not exceed ¾ from the nominal outer circumference based on the nominal diameter.

RETENTION

The finished tube should not deviate more than 1/8 inch from a distance of 10 feet. Long rule against piping.

LONGITUDES

The pipe lengths specified in the order must be provided with a tolerance of +/- 2 ''.

PREPARATION OF THE EXTREMITIES

If the pipe is specified to have chamfered ends for top-field welding, the ends should be beveled to an angle of 30 0 with a tolerance of +5 0, -0 0 with a root face width 1/16 '' + / - 1/32 ''.

FLANGES-FITTED ENDS

The ends to be mounted with flanges must be crushed (longitudinal and spiral welds), in shallow ground for a sufficient distance to allow the proper installation of the flange.

OVALITY (Out-Of-Roundness)

The roundness of the pipe ends must be consistent with the diameter and thickness of the wall. Any out-of-roundness should be limited to a smooth oval that can be jacked back to a circular shape.

DIAMETER

The tolerance in the diameter of the ends is - 1/16 '' more than 1/8 '' of the specified diameter.

1/16 '' is equal to -0.196 '' on the circumference and +1/8 '' is equal to +0.393 '' on the circumference.

END SQUARE

For the AWWA C200 water pipe to be field-welded, the ends of the pipe sections should not vary by more than 1/8 inch, at any point from a true plane perpendicular to the tube axis and passing through the center of the tube at the end.

TUBE EXTREMITIES

By agreement between the manufacturer and the buyer, the pipe ends can be supplied with joint configurations and tolerances different from those described here. In such cases, the ends of the tubes must conform to the description of the detailed drawings provided by the buyer.

This standard covers the pipe with longitudinal or spiral seam, above 6 inches. (150 mm) of nominal diameter, used for conduction and distribution of water, or for use in other installations of the water system.
